I’m a highly experienced editor of commercial non-fiction. I have been freelance since 2016; before that, I worked at Ebury, a division of Penguin Random House. So I know what it’s like to work in a busy editorial department, publishing creative, innovative, commercially successful titles (often on tight schedules!). And I know how important it is to get the right freelancer for the job.
I work across many genres, from history and politics to self-help, psychology and travel. I am particularly experienced in memoir and autobiography.
My clients are mainly the big publishers, as well as a few small presses, and I sometimes work with individuals who are in the process of developing an idea or self-publishing.
Clients include Penguin, Hodder, Headline, Octopus, HarperCollins, Bonnier, Pan Macmillan, Simon and Schuster, Bloomsbury.
Working in publishing for 18 years with authors from a whole range of professions and backgrounds has taught me (among many things!) that it’s vital for a good editor to be flexible. Every project is different. We all think differently and authors need different levels and types of support. I am adept at figuring out what’s required to get a manuscript from not-quite-there to a solid commercial proposition that will connect with readers – and I know how to communicate this to authors in a way they find reassuring and motivating.
I live in Hastings, on England’s south coast, and I can be available for in-person meetings in London when needed.
